Black Canyon of The Gunnison National Park

There are two separate park entrances to choose from, both featuring a scenic drive from Gunnison. The South Rim is 7 miles north on CO Highway 347 from the intersection with U.S. Highway 50 east of Montrose. The North Rim is 11 miles southwest of Crawford. From CO Highway 92, turn west on Black Canyon Road approximately 3 miles south of Crawford. Follow the road signs to the park. The last 7 miles are unpaved. The North Rim is closed to vehicles in the winter. There is no bridge across the canyon. Allow 2 to 3 hours to drive from one rim to the other. Plan a hike or have a picnic at one of the parks day-use areas.

Hartman Rocks Recreation Area

Hartman Rocks Recreation Area

Hartman Rocks has 45 miles of single-track trail, 45 miles of roads, 50 designated dispersed campsites, and countless climbing crags. Single-track trails are perfect for mountain biking, dirt biking, hiking, and trail running. Roads are often traveled by 4x4 trucks, ROVs and ATVs. In the winter months, 16 miles of roads are groomed as cross country ski trails for classic and skate skiing; and some single track trails are groomed as winter single track for fat biking. Location: 3 miles south on County Road 38 (Gold Basin Road). Hartman Rocks Base Area parking lot is located W side of County Road 38.

Curecanti National Recreation Area

From hiking to boat rentals or tours, there are so many options for a fun day on the water! U.S. Highway 50 runs the length of Curecanti between Montrose and Gunnison. The recreation area is also accessed from CO Highway 149 and CO Highway 92.
